Can you leave cordless drill driver attached for long long periods of time?

I want to buy a cordless drill with driver, but are not used regularly (well. .. most of the time … rarely). Would that hurt the rechargeable batteries? Would better that we only charge before when I know I will need to use it? Any insight would be helpful. Thxs.

This is not supposed to be harmful, but you can shorten the life of the battery. The new Lithium Ion (Lion) batteries have no memory, and go full power until they die. If you will use very occasionally, a corded drill may be a better option. Exercises have more power cable are significantly less expensive, and the batteries never die, or not accepting a charge. My personal choice is the rigid cordless tools, available at The Home Depot. If you register on the tools that are guaranteed for life in all, including batteries for about the same price as Makita, DeWalt, and Hitachi.
