Heater American
good or bad ? american standard water heater?
Our home warranty just replaced our gas water heater today. But we still paid $500 (labor+ permit+haul away)
The brand is American Standard 40 Gallon tank. I would like to know if this is a good brand and if it is energy star product. Thank you.
How much does the water heater cost ?
Our home warranty paid out $400 and I paid $500 to the water heater company which hire by our home warranty.
American Standard is a decent brand so you should be satisified with the product. As for the price, it depends on where you live. The water heater itself probably costs 300-400 bux. The plumbing company is not in “cahoots” with the warranty company. the warranty company will not cover upgrades such as new shutoff valve, new water flexes, new venting, etc. That is where your additional 500 bux comes from. Is it overpriced? Probably so but like I said pending on where you live labor costs vary. Do I think you got ripped off? Probably not. If you didnt have a warranty company then your price for a new heater and installation would probably have been around 1300 so paying 500 dollars is not too bad. I work in the DFW area and these prices are common. I’m guessing that you live in a major city or on the outskirts of one. In the country of course would be a little bit cheaper. Corky, not taking anything away from him, probably owns a small business and doesnt have as much overhead as a bigger plumbing company. This is why his prices would be much cheaper than a larger company. The water heater plus parts were probably no more than 600. So, be thankful your warranty company covered the water heater. good luck
